Scientists are working to get to the root of rapid apple decline. Sarah Lott Zost’s great-grandfather planted his first apple tree in 1927 in Gardners, Pennsylvania. Nearly a century later, the fourth-generation farmer is facing a never-seen-before challenge in Bonnie Brae Fruit Farms’ 700 acres of orchards.
