As pig farmers across the globe continue their battle against African swine fever (ASF), America’s pork producers have teamed up in an effort to protect the U.S. swine herd against such a devastating outbreak here. Dr. Dave Pyburn, Chief Veterinarian with the National Pork Board, says foreign animal disease preparedness is not new to producers in the United States. “As an industry, we’re working together to not only make sure that we exclude these foreign animal diseases, ASF included, but also can’t forget about foot and mouth disease and classical swine fever, as well as be able to respond..."
