Vick Family Farms learning the sweet corn biz

Vick Family Farms, based in Wilson, NC, added bi-color sweet corn to its rotation last year, and with the shortage of corn in Florida and Georgia, it seemed to hit the market at the perfect time, harvesting the week before and during the Fourth of July. “We had a very successful inaugural corn season,” said Charlotte Vick, partner/sales and marketing manager at Vick Family Farms. “My brother, Linwood Vick, and I wanted to try a new crop under new center pivot irrigation we installed last year and also a crop that would fill a gap for our labor between sweet potato transplanting and harvesting of tobacco.”
