Nearly 300 agricultural organizations called on U.S. Senate leaders to “develop and pass” legislation addressing agricultural labor reform. In a June 9 letter, the groups said farmers have faced an “onslaught of challenges” that include the COVID-19 pandemic, catastrophic weather events, retaliatory tariffs in top export markets, and falling commodity prices and farm income, according to a news release. “However, the domestic labor shortage remains one of their greatest challenges, impacting farmers today and jeopardizing the future of American agriculture,” the groups said in the letter.
