Old-growth logging in Nantahala National Forest to move forward, US Forest Service says

Logging in old-growth timber stands will move forward in Nantahala National Forest over the objections of environmental groups that continue to push the U.S. Forest Service to reconsider its Southside Project. Nicole Hayler, Executive Director of Chattooga Conservancy, was among the group that met with James Melonas, forest supervisor, National Forests in North Carolina, in May, presenting him with a petition against the project and asking him to intervene.
