A new area code is coming to southeastern North Carolina, including the cities of Fayetteville, Wilmington and Jacksonville. The growth in numbers needed – for new residents, businesses and especially cellphones – means that the numbers available in the 910 area are predicted to run out by the middle of 2023. In anticipation of that end, new numbers created in late 2022 and early 2023 will have the area code 472.
