Getting broadband connectivity in rural areas of North Carolina is often a challenge. Having homes connected for reasons of earning income, educational opportunities, and accessing health care is important enough to be concerned about rural broadband access. However, there is another reason rural connectivity is important. Research shows farms increase productivity and profitability when they have broadband connectivity. On August 19, 2021, a “Connected” Farm Field Day will be held near Kinston, NC. Register for the event online through Eventbrite. 

The PRECISION AGRICULTURE FIELD DEMONSTRATIONS AND AG TECH TENT TALKS will allow exploration of “connected” technology in the field, greenhouses, and on equipment. The Tent Talks are intended to enable farmers to better understand the many benefits from precision agriculture enabled by reliable and affordable connectivity, and also to introduce farmers to resources and assistance available to them from N.C. Cooperative Extension, DHHS, NC State University, USDA, and other organizations and personnel. The Tent Talks will also brief farmers on precision agriculture applications available today, and also those in development for tomorrow. Demonstrations and exhibits will be provided by John Deere, Agco Corp, Arable, HOBO, EarthSense, and others.
