Crops, fish and livestock loss in Henderson & Transylvania counties: What you need to know

Crops in Henderson and Transylvania counties and the fish hatchery in Pisgah Forest have been devastated by flooding from Tropical Storm Fred.  Henderson County saw crop flooding in Mills River, according to Terry Kelley, N.C. Cooperative Extension Henderson County Center director.  "There's going to be some significant losses over there," Kelley said. "There's certainly some losses to vegetables – corn and hay, probably. We're still evaluating that but we do anticipate a fairly substantial loss in that regard."
