The North Carolina Egg Association (NCEA) has announced the three independent North Carolina restaurants that are the winners of its summer restaurant support campaign: Angie’s Restaurant (Garner), Sunny Point Café (Asheville), and Eternal Sunshine Cafe (Wilmington). Each received a $1,000 prize to help rebuild, make updates, and/or support employees during the ongoing pandemic.

For eight weeks this summer, North Carolinians nominated their favorite restaurant that serves eggs in the Piedmont, Mountains and Coastal regions to win funding. One winner was selected per region.

“North Carolina’s egg farmers are proud to give back to independent, family-owned restaurants across the state after a challenging past year,” said Lisa Prince, executive director of NCEA. “With almost 400 nominations, it is clear that consumers are eager to support local restaurants in their communities.”

Egg farmers are dedicated to supporting the communities where they live and work, that includes supplying North Carolina restaurants with fresh nutritious eggs for their customers.

“We are thankful to the hard-working restaurant community, who prepares and serves delicious eggs to loyal customers each day,” said Trey Braswell, fourth-generation egg farmer at Braswell Family Farms in Nashville, NC. “Our state’s egg farmers are proud to be a partner in the process of providing fuel to the bodies and minds of our neighbors and friends and assist our state in recovering.”

=        The Piedmont-region winner, Angie’s Restaurant in Garner, opened in September 2011, but the story of the family restaurant carries on a great heritage, and it is run as a homage to the past. Just after World War II, the restaurant was converted out of an old barn into Green’s Garner Grill, which was operated by Durwood Green until his passing in 1990. Angie and her staff continue with the same original desires – to enjoy good food and good times with family and friends.

=        Sunny Point Café, the Mountains-region winner, takes pride in its made-from-scratch upscale comfort food and farm-to-table approach. The West Asheville, NC restaurant has its own garden adjacent to the restaurant, and, during peak growing season, staff works daily in the garden harvesting fresh ingredients for dishes. Sunny Point also helps raise funds and awareness and expand community engagement with local nonprofits.

=        Eternal Sunshine Cafe has been serving up unique benedicts, French toast, pancakes, and more in Wilmington, NC for several years. With creative and playful twists on familiar entrees and desserts, the restaurant was originally named after the movie Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and the poem quoted in the movie by Alexander Pope.
