Boyle column: Trying to start over, and getting wiped out

Sometimes, life is truly just cruel. If you need any evidence of that, just drive out 276 through the Cruso Community in Haywood County, or along the other roads that trace the Pigeon River or its East Fork. I went out last week to report on the devastation caused by remnants of Tropical Depression Fred, and the cruelty was on display everywhere. Driving down the winding two-lane roads, just about every trailer and home anywhere near the river was at least damaged, in many cases ruined. Yards are full of debris from upstream, crops and gardens ruined, properties inundated with mud.
