The WNC Regional Livestock Center in Canton has become flood relief central for farmers in the region who sustained losses after Tropical Storm Fred hit the county. Dan Messer, the center’s manager, is working with two nonprofits that are collecting supplies farmers will need to rebuild and loading up the trucks of farmers who urgently need items such as hay and fencing supplies. Civilian Disaster Response is a nonprofit headed by Yvonne Cobourn, who lives in the Sandy Mush community. She keeps track of who brings in donations as well as who gets them.
