North Carolina labor officials are investigating allegations that chemicals being used at a Mountaire Farms chicken-processing plant in Robeson County are making workers sick. A spokeswoman for the Department of Labor’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health said in an email Thursday that the division has begun an inspection of the Mountaire Farms plant in Lumber Bridge, a town about 18 miles southwest of Fayetteville. The inspection began after the North Carolina Justice Center filed a complaint dated Aug. 19 with the labor department on behalf of an anonymous worker.
