The Old Farmer's Almanac says a "season of shivers" with brutally cold temperatures and lots of snow awaits much of the United States this winter. Here in North Carolina, we can expect cold, dry conditions for much of the winter, according to the almanac. Further south, in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and in southern Texas, winter will be a cold, wet slog, while Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia have a cold, snowy winter to look forward to, the almanac said. "This coming winter could well be one of the longest and coldest that we've seen in years," Janice Stillman, editor of The Old Farmer's Almanac, said in a news release.
