Agriculture is still the most dangerous sector in America, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, with 573 fatalities in 2019. Because fall harvest is one of the most treacherous times, the third week of September is designated as National Farm Safety and Health Week.  The annual safety week has been proclaimed by each U.S. president since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944. Efforts are led by the National Safety Council and the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety.
