Dear Friend of Senate District 10,
The Duplin County Airport has received $60,000 in allocated state funding from federal American Rescue Plan to help with sedimentation and erosion control.  Duplin County airport is in its final stages of building two new 12,000 square foot aircraft hangars that will house the North Carolina Forest Service.  The NC Forest Service Eastern Aviation Hub will utilize Duplin County's stragetic location that allows for quick access to air, road, rail, and port facilities in eastern NC.  The local impact of the Eastern Aviation Hub's relocation to Duplin County will create a major benefit to the county and surrounding area, according to Duplin County Airport Director George Futrelle.

The forestry industry remains a vital part of NC's economy, creating a $21.6 million impact on NC's economy and over 148,000 direct and indirect jobs.  NC has over 18.1 million acres of forest. In addition to direct impact from timber logging, paper, and other wood product derivitives, the preservation of wildlife preserves and national forests helps sustain NC's diverse wildlife/unique ecosystems.  Many preserves, like the Black River Preserve in Sampson, Bladen, and Pender County house some of the oldest standing trees in the world.  The maintenance and preservation of these habitats allows for NC to have a thriving eco-tourism and wildlife management program.  The NC Forest Eastern Aviation Hub, with the help of state grants, will help ensure these economic, environmental, and cultural resources will be available for generations to come.
