House Agriculture Committee Chairman David Scott of Georgia issued the following statement applauding the USDA’s announcement on a $3 billion investment in production agriculture resiliency and addressing immediate animal health concerns:

“I commend the USDA for addressing ongoing challenges resulting from the severe drought hitting much of the country, the threat of African Swine Fever to our domestic hog production, and residual supply chain disruptions as well as commodity procurement for federal nutrition programs.  These investments complement Secretary Vilsack’s efforts to date to implement COVID-19 relief programs and disaster relief efforts provided by Congress,” Chairman David Scott continued.  “It is clear that the scope of this drought has overwhelmed our standing disaster programs, and supply chain issues surfacing before the pandemic have only been exacerbated by the slow recovery around the world.”
