Beekeepers with a number of years of experience who want to increase their
understanding of bees and improve their practices. Length: two full days’ immersion in theoretical and practical aspects of beekeeping. Format: Live and pre-taped videos from the Beekeeper Education & Engagement System (BEES).
Instructors: Dr. David Tarpy, members of the NC State Apiculture Program,
NCDA Specialists, and CES instructors.

Topics included: • Honey bee anatomy • Division of labor & bee behavior • Queens, drones, and mating • Diseases, parasites, and disorders • Varroa Integrated Pest Management • Advanced management techniques • Effects of pesticides • Honey and other hive products Presentations are 30-60
minutes long and are followed by a short Q&A and discussion period. On the
second day, you will have the opportunity to practice and observe important
areas associated with bee management including Monitoring for varroa mites,
Diseases, Pheromones, Nutrition and supplemental feeding. Upon successful
completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion. BEES Academy notebook,
