The N.C. SweetPotato Commission is teaming up with Ripe Revival, the United Way of the Tar River Region and the Harrison Family YMCA’s after-school program to sponsor an afternoon of fun for children to learn about sweet potatoes. Various activities focused on sweet potatoes are planned for the first-of-its-kind after-school event scheduled to run from 4-5:30 p.m. Friday at the Harrison Family YMCA. About 55 kindergarten through fifth-grade children are expected to participate in the event, which is part of the commission’s ongoing 60th anniversary celebration.
