House Agriculture Committee Chairman David Scott issued the following statement regarding today’s Hearing, “To Review the State of the Livestock Industry” after having heard testimonies from a distinguished group of witnesses.

“The group of witnesses that we heard from today provided diverse perspectives on the issues confronting American farmers and ranchers. They also helped to show that many members of the House Agriculture Committee are motivated to craft policies that will support the wellbeing of our livestock sector,” said Chairman David Scott.

“Two of the themes that were the focus of today’s hearing were the need to improve price discovery and how essential it is for us to look more closely at how we can incentivize competition and capacity in our processing sector,” Chairman David Scott added. “Today’s hearing was a very successful one that brought multiple voices together to discuss difficult questions facing our livestock industry. It also certainly helped the Committee to get a better idea of how to tackle the ongoing challenges in the industry and move towards a reauthorization of Livestock Mandatory Reporting.”
