Conservation district working to ID farm damage, sites for erosion control, debris removal

Following Tropical Storm Fred, first responders, various organizations and neighbors have worked to bring relief to those devastated by the floodwaters. Haywood County Soil and Water Conservation District and USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) say they are both working to put federal and state relief funds on the ground. NRCS’s Emergency Watershed Protection program aims to identify sites with streambank erosion and stream debris that are threatening man-made structures.
