Fall is a great time of year to sample soil from gardens, home lawns, and farms in preparation for next year’s growing season. Results from a properly collected, representative soil sample gives insight to the pH and nutrients in soil. This information is used to make fertilizer and lime recommendations. North Carolinians may have their soil tested throughout most of the year free of charge by the Agronomic Division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. However, from December 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, there is a peak season fee of $4 per sample.

If you would like to have your soil tested, contact your local North Carolina Cooperative Extension Center for necessary forms and supplies. Camden County residents may contact Austin Brown, County Extension Director, at (252) 331-7630. To avoid peak season fees we ask that Camden County residents please bring their soil samples to the N.C. Cooperative Extension of Camden County office by 5 p.m. on November 23
