The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services is charged with promoting potatoes grown in the state, throughout the U.S. and Canada. Kevin Hardison, marketing manager for the department, noted there are several roles it plays as marketing specialist. “One is to help growers develop a network with other growers and buyers across the industry,” he said. “Next, we keep abreast of changes that will affect their farms and livelihoods and inform the growers as necessary. Additionally, our duties extend beyond marketing and into other aspects of agriculture. Often, we need to be diversified in our approach to helping growers as growers are diversified in their respective businesses.”
