“North Carolina farmers have consistently provided essential information that help to determine the monthly yield forecasts as we progress through the harvest season each year” said Dee Webb, North Carolina State Statistician. 

“The information is invaluable to farmers and producers as well as others involved in the agricultural industry and shows the impact agriculture has in the state. We greatly appreciate their dedication to such quality data.” 

Corn for grain
• Yield estimate of 146 bushels per acre is up 33 bushels from last year’s yield of 113 bushels per acre. 
• Production forecast at 132.9 million bushels is up 25% from the 106.2 million bushels produced last year. 
• Harvested acres projected at 910,000 are down from the 940,000 acres harvested in 2020. Cotton 
• Yield estimate of 933 pounds per acre is up 174 pounds from last year’s yield of 759 pounds per acre. 
• Production forecast at 680,000 bales is up 30% from last year’s production of 522,000 bales. 
• Harvested acres projected at 350,000 are down from the 330,000 acres harvested in 2020.

Peanuts
• Yield estimate of 4,300 pounds per acre is up 400 pounds from last year’s estimate of 3,900 pounds per acre. 
• Production forecast at 485.9 million pounds is up 19% from last year’s production of 409.5 million. 
• Harvested acres projected at 113,000 acres are up from the 105,000 acres harvested in 2020. 

Soybeans
• Yield estimate of 40 bushels per acre is up 2 bushel from last year’s yield of 38 bushels. 
• Production forecast at 65.2 million bushels is up 9% from last year’s production of 59.7 million bushels. • Harvested acres projected at 1.63 million acres are up 60,000 acres from last year.
