Fred Smith Company Ranch is expanding in Johnston County. The ranch recently bought 376 acres for $6.79 million, according to three deeds filed Nov. 1 in Johnston County. The purchases put the ranch at over 1,000 acres in total size, said a ranch spokesperson, who added that more purchases to expand the ranch are expected in the coming months. The ranch produces Sim-Angus cattle and sits about 10 minutes north of downtown Clayton. The FSC Ranch 5th Extra Effort Sale took place last month where cattle was sold to buyers in eight different states.
