After warm December, dramatic cold snap is worrisome for Henderson County apple crop

A sudden cold snap that dropped temperatures in Henderson County nearly 30 degrees in 24 hours Jan. 2-3 is causing more than a few headaches for local apple growers.  Unseasonably warm temperatures in December led some trees to begin the process of budding, said local grower Kenny Barnwell, who toured much of his 150-plus acres Jan. 3 looking for swollen buds.  He said it's not as bad as he was afraid it might be, as buds are swelling with sap, but not as extensively as he thought.
