Guides for Small-Scale Farmers Now Available. Extension at A&T recently produced two field guides designed to help farmers and Extension staff. The publication High Tunnel Farming, authored by Sanjun Gu, summarizes high tunnel research at N.C. A&T and in the southeast and offers everything a farmer needs to start high tunnel production, especially with vegetables. In eight chapters, Gu covers high tunnel basics, microclimate, economics, purchasing and construction, crop choices, planting calendars, soil fertility and irrigation, warm and cool season vegetable management, and high tunnel management.

The publication All About Hemp, written by Gu and Randy Fulk, is a comprehensive guide to hemp production for small-scale growers, Extension agents, and agricultural professionals in North Carolina. In six chapters, the publication covers hemp biology, hemp markets and uses, regulations and licensing, decision making tools for small farmers, insurance, hemp production for fiber and seeds and grains, and hemp floral production for CBD.
