Farmers in Transylvania County are claiming a victory in their fight over a road project they think would make flooding in their fields worse. The North Carolina Department of Transportation's road service improvement project called for elevating a 145-foot stretch of Green Road by about 5 feet near the French Broad River. The intent was to raise the road above the floodplain so emergency vehicles could get to residents during flooding.
