Duke Energy prepares for power grid stress from high heat, hurricane season

The heat is here -- and so is hurricane season. Since storms and high heat can really stress the power grid, Duke Energy's Distribution Control Center has some new technology to make the load a little lighter. "Safety comes first, and no multitasking," says Anthony Gibbs, teasingly referred to as the mayor of the Duke Distribution Control Center. Like everyone else in this room, he works in front of a bank of computer screens, making calls, fielding calls.
