Boats line the intracoastal waterway near Holden Beach, North Carolina on on May 19, 2022. A 110,000 acre area off the coast of Holden Beach was recently leased to two companies for possible development of a wind farm. On a sunny, windy May morning, John Dosher rides down the Intracoastal Waterway from Holden Beach to Southport on a small boat. He points over to the left side of the shore and talks loudly over the waves. "I grew up literally behind the red roof house right there," Dosher said. "My mom still lives there."
