Agriculture Chairman David Scott released the
following statement on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by USDA and the 1890s Council of Presidents.“I am very pleased to see USDA taking this step to reiterate their commitment to historically Black colleges and universities. As many of you may know, I, along with my Democratic and
Republican cosponsors, established the $80 million student scholarship program
for our 1890s. And now, as some of you may know, we are adding an
additional $100 million to the 1890s scholarship fund and we are making this
1890s college student program permanent, so that for generations to come,
students at the 1890s will carry on the living legacy of these 1890s
institutions and be a glorious blessing for agriculture, and our great nation.
The 1890s Council of Presidents, chaired by Dr. Paul Jones, the president of Georgia’s very own Fort Valley State University, represents premier academics, researchers, and thousands of students who have the skills and talent to be the next generation of leaders in food and agriculture,” said
Chairman David Scott. “This new 1890s Task Force will strengthen a partnership I have long championed,” said Chairman David Scott.
