House Agriculture Chairman David Scott delivered the following statement after today's hearing titled “The Role of Climate Research in Supporting Agricultural Resiliency.”

“It is crucial that we join together and move toward bipartisan solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change, rebuild and retool rural and urban communities, and invigorate farmers to continue to serve our global food markets and protect agricultural ecosystems,” said Chairman David Scott. “Agriculture is without question our single most important industry. It is the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and our shelter. Research can help ensure that America’s farmers, ranchers, and foresters are innovative, competitive, and resilient.”

Chairman David Scott added, “Climate change is one of the most pressing issues that we face today, and it is urgent that we overcome this challenge by supporting research and development, our Land Grant Institutions, and USDA research efforts. Their work will help us continue to implement new practices and technologies that enable climate mitigation and adaptation.”
