Port strike ‘would be devastating’ for ag, economy

As the current labor agreement between West Coast shippers and dockworkers is set to expire July 1, logistics companies say a port strike would divert more traffic to Gulf Coast and East Coast ports and worsen delays, shortages and cost increases for a multitude of industries, including agriculture. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which represents about 22,000 workers at 29 ports, and about 70 employers represented by the Pacific Maritime Association have been in talks since May.
