North Carolina July Farm Report

Corn plantings are expected to total 890,000 acres in 2022, down 7% from 2021. 
Flue-cured tobacco growers expect to harvest 124,000 acres in 2022, up 3% from 2021. 
Peanut growers intend to plant 120,000 acres in 2022, up 4% from the planted acreage in 2021. 
Winter wheat plantings totaled 500,000 acres, up 11% from last year.
Soybean plantings, at 1.8 million acres, up 9% from 2021.
Cotton growers intend to plant 450,000 acres in 2022, up 20% from last year.

SOWS FARROWING North Carolina producers intend to farrow 415,000 sows during the June– August 2022 quarter and 410 sows during the September–November 2022 quarter. 
PIG CROP The State’s pig crop during the March–May 2022 period totaled 4.37 million head, down 1% from the same period last year. 
PIGS PER LITTER The number of pigs saved per litter averaged 10.4, which is up from the 10.3 pigs saved during the same quarter last year. 
HOGS & PIGS on North Carolina farms June 1, 2022 totaled 8.2 million head, up 2.5% from last quarter and up 1% from last year.
