This week the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced $12 million for its Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI). NRCS will accept proposals through GLCI until September 22, 2022.

This investment will bolster partnerships, including those with historically underserved farmers and ranchers and their organizations, to expand access to conservation technical assistance for livestock producers and increase the use of conservation practices on grazing lands. The funding also seeks to improve agricultural resilience by supporting monitoring, conferences, and other educational activities, demonstrations, producer networks, workforce training, research, and outreach projects.

"The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is pleased to see this investment in sustainable grazing, as we have long advocated for increased funding for this important program. GLCI provides local and regional resources for farmers and ranchers, – both established and beginning, who are interested in understanding and utilizing grazing management practices. These resources include technical support, education, rancher-to-rancher learning, and funding for partnerships between NRCS and grazing-focused organizations. We look forward to seeing on the ground successes from this program and will continue to advocate for additional funding to build upon those successes,” said Jesse Womack, NSAC Conservation Policy Specialist.

Applicants must submit applications through Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on September 22.  For technical issues with Grants.gov, contact Grants.gov Applicant Support at 1-800-518-4726 or support@grants.gov.
