Poultry companies honored with Clean Water Awards

American Proteins, Perdue Farms, Tyson Foods and Wayne Farms all won 2010 Clean Water Awards from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, USPOULTRY announced.

Awards are presented in two categories, full treatment and pretreatment. The full treatment category covers facilities that fully reclaim wastewater prior to discharge into a receiving stream or final land application system. The pretreatment category includes facilities that discharge pretreated effluent to publicly owned full treatment facilities. First place and honorable mention are recognized in both categories.

American Proteins' poultry product recycling facility in Hanceville, Ala., won first place in the full treatment category. Wayne Farms' facility in Decatur, Ala., was selected as the winner in the pretreatment category. Perdue Farms received honorable mention for full treatment for its slaughter and further processing operations in Perry, Ga. The Tyson Foods Fresh Retail Division in Wilkesboro, N.C., won honorable mention in the pretreatment category.
