WHAT: Strawberries will take the spotlight during Strawberry Day at the State Farmers Market. The annual celebration will feature free strawberry and strawberry ice cream samples, recipes and nutritional information, an appearance by Suzy Strawberry and a large selection of fresh N.C. strawberries for sale.

In addition, a total of $225 in prize money will be up for grabs in the Strawberry Dessert Contest. Each recipe must contain at least two cups of N.C. strawberries. Cooks can bring their entries to the State Farmers Market office from 8 to 10 a.m. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. First place earns $100, second place earns $75 and third place earns $50.
