The American Meat Institute Foundation announced it recognized 142 meat and poultry plants for outstanding safety performance at its annual Conference on Worker Safety held last week in Kansas City.

Forty-six plants were recognized with the highest award called the Award of Honor. Forty-eight received the next level Award of Merit, while 32 plants received the Award of Commendation and 16 received a Certificate of Recognition.

NC companies receiving awards include: Butterball, LLC, Mt. Olive; Smithfield Packing Co., Inc., Clinton; Smithfield Packing Co., Inc., Kinston; Smithfield Packing Co., Inc.,Tar Heel; Smithfield Packing Co., Inc., Wilson; Smithfield Packing Co., Inc., Clayton; Keystone Foods, LLC –Equity Group North Carolina Division, Reidsville.
