U.S. Congressional leaders and state ag officials will address commodity groups May7

More than 160 North Carolina agriculture and commodity group leaders will hear legislative updates May 7 at McKimmon Center from two members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation, along with a senior member of the U.S. Senate’s agriculture policy committee. News media are invited to cover the event.
 
North Carolina’s U.S. Sen. Richard Burr and U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge, along with Georgia U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, ranking minority member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, will address the commodity leadership meeting during a 12 noon luncheon.
 
Etheridge is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Burr serves on Senate committees for energy and natural resources; armed services; health, education, labor and pensions; and veterans affairs.
 
During the 12 noon luncheon, N.C. State University Chancellor Randy Woodson also will address the commodity leaders.
 
In a 10 a.m. session, the commodity leaders will hear an update on the state’s budget plans from N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler. In addition, Dr. Johnny Wynne, dean of N.C. State’s College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences, and other college administrators will share updates on the college. N.C. Farm Bureau President Larry Wooten will also speak.
