National Pork Board elects new leaders, searches for ‘grillers with groupies’

The National Pork Board announced it has elected a new president and vice president who will serve one-year terms effective July 1.

Gene Nemechek, a swine quality assurance veterinarian with the live swine division of the Tyson Pork Group Inc., will be the new NPB president. The current board vice president, he is fulfilling his second three-year term on NPB and serves on the organization's Budget Committee, Resolutions Committee, Pork Safety Committee and Swine Health Committee.

Everett Forkner, a pork producer from Richards, Mo., who markets 8,000 hogs annually, will be the new NPB vice president. Forkner, who was nominated for a second three-year term on the board by Pork Act delegates at the Pork Industry Forum in March, is chair of the board's Budget Committee and serves on the board's Administrative Committee. He also serves on the Pork Checkoff's Animal Science Committee and Niche Committee.

'Grillers with Groupies'

NPB also announced the launch of its "Calling All Grillers with Groupies" contest. Through Aug. 31, consumers can visit TheOtherWhiteMeat.com and submit a photo with a caption that explains how they enjoy spending time at the grill with their grilling groupies.

One grand prize winner will have a chance to cook alongside Melissa d'Arabian, host of the Food Network's "10 Dollar Dinners," during the New York City Wine & Food Festival this October.
