Tyson Foods is investing $9 million in new equipment and building improvements at its chicken “tray pack” facility in Monroe, N.C., as part of an expansion that will add about 60 new jobs, the company announced jointly with the city’s Monroe Economic Development program.

The new jobs bring total employment at the facility to 1,500.

The expansion was partly facilitated by an economic development incentive grant of up to $171,120 approved by the Monroe City Council on May 18 to encourage this investment.

“We’re pleased to proceed with this project and are grateful for the support of the city council and Monroe Economic Development,” said Doug Ramsey, vice president of operations in Tyson’s fresh poultry business. “The improvements will not add production capacity, but will involve the use of new equipment and processes designed to enhance the efficiency and long term competitiveness of our Monroe processing operation.”
