Pork supplies in freezers as of Aug. 31 were down 2 percent from the prior month and down 27 percent from last year, USDA reported in its monthly Cold Storage Report.

Stocks of pork bellies, moreover, dropped 68 percent from the previous month and sunk 86 percent year on year.

Total red meat supplies in freezers dipped 1 percent from last month and fell 19 percent from last year.
Meanwhile, the story was a little different in poultry, with total supplies in freezers up 2 percent from July. However, supplies were still 8 percent lower than the year-ago level.

Chicken stocks, in particular, rose 4 percent from the last month and increased 8 percent year on year.
Turkey supplies were down 1 percent and 24 percent, respectively.
