Chicken stocks in cold storage up; pork bellies plunge

Total stocks of chicken in refrigerated warehouses on Sept. 30, were up 1 percent from the previous month and up 12 percent from last year, according to USDA’s Cold Storage report.


Total pounds of turkey in freezers were down 6 percent from last month  and down 23 percent from September 30, 2009. Total frozen poultry supplies were down 2 percent from the previous month and down 5 percent from a year ago.


Frozen pork supplies were up 10 percent from the previous month but down 20 percent from last year.  Stocks of pork  bellies were down 34 percent from last month and down 88 percent from last year.
Total red meat supplies in freezers were up 5 percent from the previous month but down 14 percent from last year.
