The City Council of Wilson, N.C., has allocated $1 million to fight a proposed poultry processing plant, media sources report.

The money comes from the city’s general fund, The Rocky Mount Telegram reported.
The Council also adopted a resolution in opposition of the planned Sanderson Farms plant. Councilors expressed particular concern about waste disposal leading to fly, odor and water quality issues, WRAL reported. The resolution says Wilson will not supply water to the plant.

The City Council said the Nash County Board of Commissioners, which recently rezoned a parcel of land for the proposed plant, had not notified the city that the county was trying to arrange for a plant to open in the area.

The Sanderson plant could bring 1,100 jobs to the area.
