The Humane Society of the United States announced today the filing of a class action lawsuit against Perdue Farms, alleging that the company is falsely advertising products with “Humanely Raised” labels.

HSUS said the lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of New Jersey on behalf of “all consumers duped” by Perdue, claims that the company is illegally marketing its Perdue and Harvestland chicken products with “Humanely Raised” labels.

A spokeswoman for HSUS told Meatingplace the organization found the products marketed in New Jersey and “we have a member there who was duped into buying it.”

The complaint seeks a jury trial and compensatory damages for the class members, as well as injunctive relief against further use of the “Humanely Raised” claim by Perdue.

Perdue officials could not be reached for comment before deadline.
