State Farmers Market completes annual Week of Giving Saturday

WHAT:
The Market Shoppes at the State Farmers Market will host an open house, featuring holiday gifts for purchase, free samples, prizes and an opportunity to donate to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

The event caps the State Farmers Market’s “Week of Giving” food drive to benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Shoppers can drop off non-perishable food items and monetary donations under the Market Shoppes’ Giving Tree through Saturday.

WHEN: December 11, 2010 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 

WHERE: The Market Shoppes State Farmers Market, 1201 Agriculture St.
Interstate 40, exit 297, Lake Wheeler Road

MORE INFO: The Market Shoppes offer a large selection of N.C. products and gift ideas, including meats and cheeses, jams and jellies, baked goods, coffee, candy, gift baskets, crafts, candles, soaps and wines. Seasonal produce, firewood and N.C. Christmas trees also are available in the Farmers Building.

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle recovers good food that would otherwise be discarded to feed the hungry in Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, Johnston, Edgecombe and Nash counties. Since 1991, the State Farmers Market has worked with the food shuttle to recover fruits and vegetables from market vendors.
