Carolina Organic Commodities and Livestock Conference

The Second Annual Carolina Organic Commodities and Livestock Conference will be held Thursday/Friday January 20-21, 2011 and is open free of charge to growers and the public.  Jointly sponsored by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, NC State University and Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, the two day conference is designed  to connect commercial-scale organic producers and organic commodities and livestock experts. The conference takes place at Santa Fe Natural Tobacco’s Oxford campus on Thursday, Jan. 20 and continues at the Comfort Inn in Oxford, NC on Friday, Jan. 21.  The conference includes lunch, keynote address, multiple workshops on production and marketing of organic crops, and an evening reception in the exhibit hall on Thursday, January 20th.

This unique event will host more than 150 certified organic farmers growing grains, vegetables, and tobacco and raising livestock. It is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to network with and learn from experienced organic farmers.  If you are interested in the Carolinas’ rapidly growing organic ag sector, this conference will allow you to learn more about:

- growing organic
- raising livestock sustainably
- marketing organic products
- food safety and good agricultural practices

In addition the Organic Commodities Conference qualifies for up to 10.5 CEU CCA credits in the following increments: organic veg prod (1 CEU in pest mgmt; 0.5 CEU in crop mgmt); organic grain, 1.5 CEU in crop mgmt; organic veg meeting, 1.5 CEU in crop mgmt; food safety, 1.5 CEU crop mgmt; organic grain II (0.5 CEU pest, 1.0 CEU crop); livestock II, 1.5 CEU crop; and organic grain marketing, 1.5 CEU crop.
