Dear Friends,

During these tough times, we simply cannot afford to raise taxes on anyone, and we must help those who are struggling to find a job. Thursday evening, I voted to ensure that NO Americans have an increase in their taxes beginning in January 2011 and to provide assistance to those who are unemployed in these challenging times.

This bill brings some certainty to North Carolina families and businesses by letting them budget and plan. In addition, it keeps tax income rates low, provides tax relief for education incentives, families and children, provides an employee pay roll tax cut, and continuation of unemployment benefits.

Highlights of The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act include:
• Temporary Reductions in Individual Income Tax Rates;
• Temporarily Extend the Capital Gains and Dividend Rates;
• Temporarily Extend the Child Tax Credit;
• Temporarily Extend Marriage Penalty Relief;
• Temporarily Extend Education incentives including student loan interest deduction, employer provided educational assistance, and the American Opportunity Tax Credit to help with cost of tuition and related expenses;
• Temporary Individual Alternative Minimum Tax Relief;
• Temporary Estate Tax Relief;
• Temporary extension of investment incentives
• Temporary extension of unemployment benefits, and
• Temporary employee pay-roll tax cut.
I supported this bi-partisan agreement, and will continue working toward solutions that address our economic and fiscal challenges.

Sincerely,

U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre
Representing the 7th District of North Carolina
