The annual North Carolina Turfgrass Short Course is Feb. 14-18 at the JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

The event provides five days of comprehensive turfgrass education and is appropriate for anyone interested in turf, including homeowners, career-changers or turfgrass professionals. The workshop features presentations covering all aspects of turfgrass management by faculty members in N.C. State’s turfgrass program. The course is sponsored by N.C. State University and the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education (CENTERE) in N.C. State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Topics covered include selecting the proper turfgrass for the site, turfgrass growth and physiology, seed and vegetative establishment, soil properties, nutrient management, mowing, irrigation and drainage, pesticide safety and pesticide application equipment calibration, environmental concerns, and disease, insect and weed management. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, with the first class at 9 a.m. The course concludes at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.

The course is designed to provide the basic information needed by new professional turf managers and to serve as a review and update for experienced turf managers.

The cost of the five-day course is $495. The JC Raulston Arboretum, where the course will be held, is at 4415 Beryl Road, Raleigh.
