NC General Assembly leadership assignments announced

As the North Carolina General Assembly convening date draws closer, President Pro Tempore-Elect Berger and Speaker-Elect Tillis are releasing leadership assignments prior to the convening date of Wednesday, January 26, 2011.  New information is listed below.

• House Appropriations Committee Chair will be former House Speaker Harold Brubaker.

• House Appropriations Committee Co-Chairs will be Representative Mitch Gillespie, Representative Linda Johnson and Representative Jeff Barnhart.

• House Finance Committee Co-Chairs will be Representative Julia Howard, Representative Mitchell Setzer and Representative Edgar Starnes.

• House Judiciary Committee, (formerly 3 Committees - have been folded into one), will be Chaired by Representative Leo Daughtry, a former House Majority Leader.

• House Commerce Committee will be headed by Representative Danny McComas of Wilmington.  

• Three Subcommittees under the Commerce Committee will be focused on Alcoholic Beverage Control, Business & Labor, and Science & Technology.  These Subcommittee Chairpersons will be named later.

• House Rules Committee Chairman for 2011 will be Co-Chaired by Representative Tim Moore and Representative Stephen LaRoque.

The below leadership roles for the House Democratic Caucus members were also announced: Elected Democratic Caucus Whips are as follows:

Representative Rick Glazier of Fayetteville
Representative Larry Hall of Durham
Representative Ray Rapp of Mars Hill
Representative Deborah Ross of Raleigh
Representative Michael Wray of Gaston

The above Whips are in addition to previously announced leadership roles: including former House Speaker Joe Hackney who will become the House Minority Leader for the Democrats for the 2011 Session of the NC General Assembly.
