Three regional workshops will be held throughout the state to give communities information about creating and administering voluntary and enhanced voluntary agricultural districts and farmland protection plans. These plans protect and support agricultural and forestry industries and help protect farmland.

The workshops are for agricultural advisory board members, their staff and others responsible for developing and administering VAD, EVAD or farmland protection plans within their communities. Farmers and landowners are also encouraged to participate.

Several topics related to the VAD and EVAD programs will be touched on, including estate taxation, signage, legal requirements and economic opportunities.

The workshops will be held Feb. 9 at the Sen. Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center in Williamston, Feb. 16 at the Lee County Extension Center in Sanford and March 18 at the Haywood County Extension Center in Waynesville. The workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. to about 3 p.m. Registration is free; a pizza lunch can be purchased for $5. Participants can pre-register at www.ncadfp.org.
